Saudi Arabia will generate 250,000 jobs by hosting Expo 2030

Saudi Arabia is expecting to create upto 250,000 jobs following confirmation it will host Expo 2030 in Riyadh according to the Minister of Tourism.

These opportunities will successfully contribute to the National Tourism Strategy, which was launched in 2019. It is strongly aligned with Saudi Vision 30 and aims to increase gross domestic product (GDP) from 3 to 10% in the next 6 years by creating one million jobs. Most importantly, sustainable hotel related jobs will add to this target to cater for the Expo 2030.

The travel and tourism sector is quickly recovering from the pandemic according to reports from the UN World Tourism Organization and the Travel and Tourism Council. The sector represents 10% of the global labour market, which was equivalent to 330 million jobs in 2019. As a result, the global tourism sector is one of the most important sectors for future growth.

In terms of the experiences created it is also a sector that should retain the human element in order to ensure tourism visits are enjoyable, comfortable and provide a positive and memorable experience for the tourist. Furthermore, any stories that a tourist experiences from interaction with hospitality staff are what will be remembered and shared with family members. The National Tourism Strategy aims to provide outstanding levels of customer service and hospitality by raising employee skill levels through Ministry led training courses and relevant seminars.
